Dr Gita Robson

My name is Gita and I am a HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist. I work privately here at Breathe Clinical Psychology and also within the NHS.

I have been working in mental health settings for nearly 20 years. Over this period I have worked across a variety of settings and with different patient groups including adolescents, offenders, hospital settings (including paediatrics), as well as with clients in the community and the staff supporting them. A consistent interest has always been adult mental health and wellbeing and this is where my expertise lies.

I focus on helping people to overcome emotional health challenges and get back to living a life that is meaningful. This might include coping skills to deal more effectively with stress, motivation to pursue meaningful activities or even therapeutic work to process traumatic experiences. My goals in therapy are always to help the client move closer to the life they want to live. Find out more here.

Specialist in Stress, Physical Symptoms and Long Term Health Conditions

In addition to treating common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression I have a special interest in the links between mental health and physical health. I am particularly interested in stress and how stress presents itself in the body at a physical level. We all experience stress from time to time - this is normal and is part of living a human life - but what is important is how we respond to stress when it arises. Cumulative stress (when stress builds up, or when there are lots of stressors over a prolonged period of time) can take it’s toll on the body and can start to wear our bodies out and affect the way our bodies work. When your body doesn’t work as you want it to then this itself can become another stressor. I am keen to help people to understand the links between their stressors and physical ailments and develop skills to manage stress more effectively.

I work with people who have long term health problems, such as kidney disease, diabetes, and gastroenterological problems. I also work with people who have symptoms without a formal diagnosis, or where symptoms are medically unexplained. This includes working with people who have persistent pain, migraines or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Find out more here.
